Yeah you read it right guys , you can root BlueStacks too. This is because BlueStacks as you know is an Android Emulator and has a Android OS running on it and like any other Android Mobile, BlueStacks can also be rooted. Its very easy to root BlueStacks just follow the following steps.
Requirements:-
  • Download a Zip file from Here

Steps to follow:-

  1. First of all we need to End all processes related to BlueStacks App Player. In the image below all the processes in the red box are needed to be closed by Selecting the Processes and then clicking on End Process.
  2. After killing the processes, you have to change the folder options, for that you have to Open Computer then go to Organize and then click on Folder and search options. In the dialogue box select the radio button saying Show hidden files, folders and drives and click on OK.
  3. Then go to path C:\ProgramData\BlueStacks\Android and backup the Root.fs file as we are going to replace this file later.
  4. Now, extract the zip file you downloaded from the link given above .Then open the extracted folder and then double click on the Bluestacks RootEZ.exe. It will ask for Administrative Rights so Click on OK.
Then in the opened window firstly click on Automatic Detect from Installed BlueStacks button or you can browse if you had installed BlueStacks in other location.
After that Check the checkbox saying "Enlarge System (Root.fs) Size to 400MB" as shown and then click on I'm Ready for Step 1 button.
  5. Now , wait for the step 1 to complete.Only when you see a black window saying console login, you will click on the Go for Step 2 button but yeah don't close this Commmand Prompt type window shown below before clicking on the button for the next step, that window will automatically close when step 2 has been completed.
  6. Then go to the output folder which is in the same folder from where you opened the Bluestacks RootEZ.exe file and then copy Root.fs file
  7. Now, again to C:\ProgramData\BlueStacks\Android path and then replace the Root.fs file there, with the file you just copied in the above step.
That's it your BlueStacks is now Rooted.

Steps to confirm the Rooting

  1. Launch BlueStacks
  2. Install an application named Root Checker Basic in the BlueStacks.
Note:- If you don't know how to install an Application on BlueStacks check out the post below:-

  4. Click on Allow.

For Accessing the files like images ,audio files, pdfs etc in your computer from your BlueStacks - App Player you will need:-
  • A Good File Explorer like ES File Explorer,Astro File Manager etc.
In this post I'll be using ES File Explorer(Version 3).
You can check this post How To Install BlueStacks Android Emulator for knowing how to install applications. Now I believe you have installed the ES File Explorer my personal favorite.

Steps to follow for Newer Versions of Bluestacks App Player(v 0.9)

  1. Open BlueStack - App Player and click on All Apps
  2. Now click on Bluestacks Setting.
  3. Then click on Import Windows Files.
  4. A dialogue box will appear in which you have to click on Proceed. After that another dialogue box will open from which you can choose the files that you want to import and then click on Open
  5. After Bluestacks had imported the files ,we can view them by using ES File Explorer.
  6. In the file explorer you will find a windows folder , so click on it to open.
  7. Now click on "BstSharedFolder".Here you will find all your imported files.

Steps to follow for Older Versions of Bluestacks App Player(v 0.7)

  1. Open BlueStack - App Player and then launch ES File Explorer.
    Launch Es File Explorer
  2. In the ES File Explorer you will find a bstfolder so click on it to open the folder.
    Open bstfolder
  3. Here you will find a number of folders as shown in the image. The "Documents" Folder here is the " My Documents " of your PC if you are on Windows XP and for Windows 7/8 Users it corresponds the Documents folder on your PC.
  4. So you can paste any file in your Documents folder of your PC and then restart the BlueStacks so that the folders get refreshed.
    Restart BlueStacks
  5. Similarly, the Pictures folder in bstfloder is the "My Pictures" folder of the PC in Windows XP and for Windows 7/8 it corresponds to the Pictures folder on PC.
  6. The Public Documents and the Public Pictures folders in the bstfolder consists of those files of the Documents and Pictures folder of the PC which are publicly shared.
  7. That's it.
Note:- Sometimes you may not see all the files pasted in the Documents folder of your PC in The ES File Explorer of the BlueStacks. So here's what you can do:-

  1. My Current Documents folder in the bstfolder and the Documents folder on my PC are shown below. Contents of Documents folder in the bstfolder Contents of Documents on my PC
  2. As you can compare the above two images and notice that the folders after My Games folder on PC is not visible in ES File Explorer. So what you do is create a New Folder in your PC as shown in the image and you must give a name to that folder which start with a letter from A - N (because the folders starting with name after M are not visible),Like in my case I Gave the name Folders because it starts with F and is in the range A-N.After creating the folder add some files in it like music, images etc.
New Folder named Folders is created
  3. Now go to ES File Explorer and click on the Refresh Button in the below as shown in the image.
    Click on Refresh Button
  4. Now you will see the folder you created. So open it and you will see all the files which you copied in that folder on your PC
Folders is now visible in Es File Explorer
